Peter Pan
Its hard to tell this story in a fresh and new and exciting way. I have seen many versions of the Peter Pan story. Universal did a pretty good job considering what they were up against. I have to say thought that
Hook is still my favorite. The main reason is that Hook is a very sweet and sentimental sappy film and it gets me where I live. The new Peter Pan movie, while adding a lot to the discussion of the merits of growing up versus not, did not make me cry. And I guess I was hoping in a lame way that it would. The Wendy was very pretty as was Wendy's Mom. Lynn Redgrave was great as the Aunt. And, I am begining to worry about this one, I really sympathized with Hook more than Peter. Hooks arguments were really more convincing, and his realization that Peter cannot love or feel was very persuasive.
So between this and Pirates of the Caribbean movie I have been routing for the bad pirates a lot. We won't even talk about
Treasure Island, because I think you are
supposed to love Long John Silver. Please keep your gutter mind from making any porno jokes, because I won't entertain them.
I was only a little surprised that Universal was venturing into Disney waters again and even mentioned Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty by name. They really are gunning for the Disney market and they shoot little barbs at Disney whenever they can. I myself think that Disney needs some competition. They have been a fat cat too long.
Speaking of which we decided to renew our annual passports again this year. Despite the huge letdown for the Sleeping Beauty Ball.
MALEFICENT'S SPELLBINDING EVENT PACKAGE
- One (1) admission ticket for a showing of the Walt Disney Animated Classic film "Sleeping Beauty" valid only on February 14, 2004 at the AMC 12 Theater in the Downtown Disney District.
- Attend a Princess Academy Class
- Themed Lunch with Enchanting Entertainment
- Attend a Storytelling session
- Reserved Seating for a Performance of "Disney's Snow White - An Enchanting Musical"
- Commemorative Gift
The thing that is missing here is that they were going to have special Limited Edition available only through this event Sleeping Beauty merchandise. Specifically they were to have pins. I myself collect Maleficent pins and I was really hoping for a Maleficent pin. That would have been great. Anyway. It's stupid and I don't need to go to a class to learn how to be a princess. I
know how already.

Charlie’s Angles: Full Throttle
Nice use of the soundtrack. My opinion is its James Bond without the James Bond, just three Bond girls who are in every movie. Its stupid mindless fun. I enjoyed it as a rental. I don't think I would have appreciated paying full price.

Movie Marathon
OK. I have seen several movies in rapid fire succession and I'm going to review them equally rapidly.
Dracula 2000: I rented it
as promised I was hoping for lots more boobies, and there mostly were none, that I had not seen on TV. The idea of the true nature of Dracula is a bit of a shocker. Possible, unlikely, but possible. It improved my opinion of this otherwise average vamp tale.
TRON: It rules. Its odd to see a movie that tries to make its CGI
look like cgi. It was nice to see the "dude" in cyberspace. Also it was nice to see Sherridan (Bruce Boxlitner). This really isn't a "Disney" movie. Its a movie that some freaks made and got Disney to fund. Which in my mind is not the same thing. The light cycles are still pretty f--in rad even now. The extra disk is pretty full. Though they keep talking about Tron 2. Part of the lure of this movie is that the principal actors haven't the slightest idea of what they are talking about. Neither though it appears do the dialog writers. I don't think that would work very well in 2004. The dude says at one point. "Somewhere in those memories" referring to computer memory. Now even a Fry's salesperson knows that computer memory is not pluralized. Human memories are.
A Boy and His Dog (1975): Now this is just a silly movie. Now I don't mean it is a family movie like the rest of the Boy and His Dog movie appears to be. If you are counting, there are five. Don Johnson. The actor, not my co-worker. Is very young and green. But delivers a solid performance. The ending is funny and a nice twist, but not unguessable if you are paying attention and not asleep on the couch.
Pirates of the Carribean: I didn't really review this properly and since I watched it again I decided that I really do like it and feel that it does the genre of Pirate movies service. The action is good, the action is really easy to watch and enjoy. It makes you think abut the ride differently. If only Haunted Mansion was that good. (It was not.)
OK, only one of these movies is a horror movie. I must be slipping.
